Meet Coach Rich Schimenek, Owner and Director of Strength & Conditioning

Rich has been a Strength & Conditioning Coach for the past 18 years.  During that time, he has helped hundreds of student athletes reach their personal and athletic goals.  Currently, Rich trains male and female athletes ranging from middle school to college age.  He coaches each athlete within their own ability, programming a variety of techniques to increase their speed, agility, strength, and conditioning. 

While he works with athletes from all backgrounds, he excels in training hockey players, swimmers, and track & field athletes.  Rich has directed the athletic development of several local hockey talents that play at levels ranging from high school, all 3 levels of Junior Hockey, both D1 and D3  college hockey, and even the NHL!  He also is responsible for the in-season training for the local junior hockey teams, the NA3HL Granite City Lumberjacks and the NAHL St. Cloud Norsemen.
In swimming and diving, he has worked with both boys and girls that have competed in the past 12 State Swim & Dive Championships.  
Rich has also trained track & field athletes that have competed in every event and accounted for over 75 appearances in the MN State Track Meet over the past 15 years!  Overall, Rich has an excellent record helping athletes to reach their full potential.

In his spare time, Rich is an avid weightlifter and continues to pursue new knowledge in the field.  In the past he has traveled to Columbus, OH to attend the Elite FTS Sports Performance Summit where he learned from 4 world-class coaches: Buddy Morris of the Arizona Cardinals (NFL), Joe Kenn of the Carolina Panthers (NFL), Joe DeFranco of DeFranco's Training at the Onnit Academy, and Chip Morton of the Cincinnati Bengals (NFL).  In the past, Rich has participated in the Phase 1 Mentorship at EXOS (formerly Athletes Performance) in Phoenix, AZ.  It was a week-long course taught by trainers and coaches responsible for over 50 1st Round NFL Draft Picks as well as successful athletes from around the world.  He also attended an Olympic Weightlifting course from California Strength, one of the three main training centers of the US Olympic Weightlifting Team.  

Meet Coach Cal Herold, Director of Goaltender Development

Cal brings extensive knowledge to the Trois Team with a focus on Goaltender Development.  He  holds a Level 4 USA Hockey Coaching Certification and is the Goalie Coach for the St. Cloud Cathedral boy’s hockey team. Cal was previously the Goalie Coach for the College of Saint Benedict and served as the Goalie Coach-in-Chief for District 5 of Minnesota Hockey and coached in the CCM High Performance Program for Minnesota Hockey as well as at the Dave Peterson CCM High Performance Goalie Camp.

A native of St. Cloud, Minn., Cal grew up playing in the St. Cloud Youth Hockey Association before having four successful seasons at Cathedral High School. During his tenure at Cathedral, the Crusaders were four time conference champions, two time section champions and appeared in the Minnesota State Boy’s High School Hockey Tournament twice.

Cal attended St. John’s University where he hung up his skates competitively and transitioned to coaching. In both  2019 and 2024, Cal and the Crusaders won the class A Minnesota State Boy’s High School Hockey Tournament. Cal has also coached goalies to the youth hockey District and Regional Tournaments, multiple Minnesota State Boy’s High School Hockey Tournaments, the USHL, NA3HL and the AJHL.

Cal is a firm believer that there is no one way to play the position and strives to give goaltenders the individual attention they need to improve their style of play. He brings a coaching style that is based on the numerous camps and goalie coaches he worked with during his career. He believes that the success for any goaltender lies in strong fundamentals, explosive quickness and repetition.

Meet Coach Matt Richmond, Lead Goaltender Development Instructor

Matt grew up playing hockey in Eagan and started playing the game when he was 8 years old. He began to play goalie right away as he was drawn to it because it has a direct impact on the game. Matt played high school hockey for Eagan from 2011-2013. He has coached in the Saint Cloud area for 5 years. Matt coached at the Bantam level for 3 years, prior to moving up to the high school level. He is currently the Goalie Coach for the St. Cloud Crush girl's hockey team, as well as the College of Saint Benedict.  He also coached the goalies for the Minnesota High performance team. 

Coach Matt is a strong believer in helping goalies develop in their own style. He believes in the importance of growing the sport and the position of goaltending. Coach Matt is continuing to grow his knowledge of the game so he can give you as a goalie the tools to make you better. 

When coach Matt is not at Trois he is teaching elementary students in physical education and coaches the girls high school team in Saint Cloud.

Meet Coach Carl Koehn III, Goaltender Development

Carl grew up playing in the St. Cloud Youth Hockey Association, learning to skate at the age of three and put the pads on for the first time at the age of eight. He began student coaching at the age of 12 and was immediately hooked on giving back to the future generations of goalies through coaching. When Carl's not at the rink he can be found selling hockey equipment, sharpening skates, and serving as the Equipment Manager for the St. Cloud Norseman of the NAHL.  

When coaching, Carl strives on building strong fundamentals. He believes on giving everything you have 100% of the time. Individuality is important, and he believes in finding your strengths and utilizing them.
